Glaurung is an engine written by Tord Romstad who is still involved in the development of Stockfish, the "leading" engine (I can hardly call Stockfish "the strongest" after Komodo's rising power at TCEC-7...)
Glaurung Mainz was released in 2006 as an open source engine. We thank Jim Ablett for bringing it to Android.
Before downloading Glaurung HERE, please note that two files must be installed: The engine and a bitbase binary. Cheers!
Big Compliment for this website.
ReplyDeleteYou're doing a fine job here, thank you Mr. Uckardes.
With this engine iam very happy.
I have a few questions;
1) Is there much difference in Elo in compare with windows Glaurung ?
and also in playstyle ? (I hope not)
2) Is it problem to play with armv5 engines on a armv7 tablet?
( I have Nexus7 2013)
(Sorry for bad english)
Greetings from Holland,
Ron
Thanks a lot.
Delete1) Android vs Windows: Consider 100 to 300 ELO difference depending on the processors and the engine code. You can compare nodes per seconds between them to calculate. Use 70 ELO for each 2x roughly. For exemple: 8 times more nps on PC says 4 * 70 = 280 ELO. This gap varies from one engine to another, also from one time control to another. I give just an average here. Regarding play style, Android is the same.
2) Arm v5 is old, generic and it will run on almost any device. No problem at all. But Arm v7 instructions add 50% more speed on a v7 device, according to my test with Stockfish. I don't know what about other engines. Anyway, if i was Jim Ablett, i would only compile for Arm7.
Have a nice day.
Thnx for the reply.
ReplyDelete50% more speed? That's à lot!
Aldo Iam grateful for every compile Mr.Ablett creates,
i wonder why it's often for Arm5.
