I wanna keep cautious with Komodo 10 after the disappointment with 9.3 and 9.42 which both showed very poor progress over 9.2.
As of today, Stockfish leads all major rating lists based on Windows platform. Android is no exception for Komodo. The reptile is currently performing much weaker on Android 32-bit, about 30 ELO behind Stockfish 7.
Bearing in mind that current Stockfish development versions promise serious improvements over SF7 already, i think Komodo 10 needs a remarkable boost to cope with them.
Further Rapidroid gauntlets will show exactly how much the gap changed in last months.
Nevertheless, i would be more than happy to see more threats around against Stockfish, other new engines ported to Android. According to TCEC Season-9, some competitive engines clearly overtake the old Critter 1.6a, which is still #3 behind Stockfish and Komodo.
Imagine that we could have Jonny, Andsacs, Fire, Nirvana, Raptor too... running in Rapidroid. Wow!
Then i woke up! It seems i had a dream...
A huge disappointment from K10 :(
ReplyDeleteStockfish 120616 is ripping apart the K10. Honestly, only K9 & K9.2 was was combat versions for ST.
GUI Analyze This, android 4.4.1, 4 cores, default settings for bought engines.
ReplyDelete20 sec for evaluation, after 1.e4 ->
ST 120616 (+0,28), depth 21, 251 kN/s
K10 (+0,24), depth 19, 176 kN/s.
Enough to understand who is better.
Only one good thing about K10, it understands better closed positions, like King's Indian.
Why low nps with 4 cores? On Exynos 4412, they reach 750 and 520.
DeleteProbably, because device has low RAM memory. Plus, 60+ app installed. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't make serious tests on my Tablet.
Well, I cleaned my Tablet little bit, only 15 apps remained.
ReplyDeleteNow, in DroidFish, St 120616 after 20 sec, shows 457 kN/s, K10 341 kN/s. Depth 19/18. Again ST looks stronger.
In Analyze this, 20 sec, St 263 kN/s K10 161 kN/s, depth 22/21.
I think NPS is low, because, 2 engines works at the same time, plus, device has only 1 GB RAM.
(1) In first hundred game- Stockfish120616 46/100
ReplyDeletekomodo10 54/100
(2) In second hundred game result Stockfish120616 47.5/100
komodo10 52.5/100
So, I think komodo10 is best. All game played on android device 2m+1s
Update for Acid Ape Chess, with last Arasan 19.1, can somebody find the engine?
ReplyDeleteHello Gurcan!
ReplyDeleteAlex makes a request for Arasan19.0.1 (uci)
Here is the link to my box

Hervé
Merci beaucoup. A new post will comw with all engines bundled with APE. Bad news is that Arasan 19.0.1 crashes with SMP and only works as single core. That explains the weakness issue reported previously by a visitor of the blog.
DeleteThanks Hervé!
ReplyDeleteHello Gurcan!
ReplyDeleteIt's strange because Arasan19.0.1 works flawless with smp on all my tablets!
I have os 4.1.2, 4.4.2 and 4.4.4.
I have tested Arasan on DF( all tablets) CFA (one tablet with 2 cores)
May be the engine crashes on Lollipop or Marshmallow? To verify..
Herve, it crashed on Exynos in my case with CfA. It starts searching up to depths 6-7 and no further pv progress. I'm on Jellybean. What cpu you have? X86?
DeleteHello Gurcan!
ReplyDeleteI tested Arasan19.0.1 with CFA on my Lenovo a1000 ( mt8317=mediatek,2cores,1.2ghz) os 4.1.2 (jellybean)
In the start position with analyze level:depth20 reached in 35s approximatively and 175kns
I will test Arasan on CFA with my others tablets (Allwinnera23,a33,Rockchip3188,2,4,4cores) and let you know asap
Arasan, exits all the time.
ReplyDeleteHello Gurcan!
ReplyDeleteSome news about Arasan19.0.1 and CFA:
The engine runs well in analyze mode but crashes during a game if you play a move different of his pondering move:the solution is simple:ponder off;so the engine runs well (even in tournament mode)
To sum up and for me:
Droidfish: no problem
CFA:ponder off= ok, ponder on=crash
Alex says the engine exit all the time: it's disturbing..
Previous post = Hervé
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but Arasan doesn't work, as I sad before, engine exits all the time.
ReplyDeleteI think i've found why: Find, extract, edit and install "arasan.rc". It seems this time the engine needs it.
DeleteAlmost every statement in the original post is completely false. Stockfish is BEHIND Komodo on almost every major rating list I've seen--and that includes the latest dev versions of SF. The only exception is SF160716 on CCRL 40/4. I regularly use both engines for analysis (on Windows & Android), and K9.42 usually finds better moves and does it faster.
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous, thanks for your comment as negative feedback is valuable too. Please note that the post was based on Komodo 9.42 vs SF development of the closest date, seen on CCRL and also Komodo 9 vs SF7 on others like CEGT and IPON. Don't forget the gap is not huge and may have changed when you check. K9.3 and K9.42 disappointed especially on Android after K9.2 and i've got hopes for K10. I like Komodo like you do and i prefer it too for analysis. Take care.
