RAPIDROID RELOADED: January-2018 ft Komodo 11.2.2 and Andscacs

Here i come with a new list for a new year, long awaited and delayed a little bit due to unexpected updates that i couldn't ignore. Especially Andscacs, Ginkgo and Ethereal.

It's a pleasure to see new stronger engines coming to the stage, like Andscacs and Ginkgo thanks to Alexei Chernakoff's valuable efforts. As previous top engines didn't perform the same way against newcomers, we have a slightly changing distribution this time, explaining why Stockfish lost ~50 ELO. In fact it didn't lose anything, it just traveled between the lines. ELO margins between this list and the previous one are still linked.

I think this update is the most accurate ever because there are more games per engine and more competition at the top. Conclusion: Different population explain different distributions and different distributions explain different ELOs.

If you ask why Stockfish 8 is still here, there are two reasons:
1) There's no SF9 coming, not enough improvement yet,
2) Komodo is still behind.

The highlights of this release:

  1. Great job Gurcan with this latest Rapidroid!I agree that this is probably the most accurate Rapidroid ever..and possibly the most significant due to the large number of engines especially in the top.Magnificent performance by Andscacs especially as the arm 7 binary used here is much slower than the arm8 one.Ginkgo is probably performing as expected...its just that Andscacs overperformed! Congrats to Alexei for Andscacs! Also very impressed with Texel where the much better SMP and faster arm7 binary AND of course updated engine takes it to Number 6 on the list.Im glad to see Stockfish 8 is still 'top dog' but Komodo is on its heels. Thanks Gurcan for your perseverence- in what seemed to be a busy time for you- in releasing this list.It was worth the wait!

  2. Surprisingly, Texel # 6, and Critter only # 9! Top 10 has changed a lot.

    1. Critter is arm5, it must have suffered from an old compile. Arm7 pgo would be, i guess worth 30-40 elo. Regarding Texel, from 1.07 to 1.08alpha there's serious improvement.

      Delete
    2. Another reasın is that Critter looks more vulnerable than others against Andscacs and Ginkgo.

  3. Both nayeem and sugar are missing in the list, why?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Nayeem and Sugar are clones of Stockfish. Their inclusion is wrong.

  5. Thanks Gurcan, btw is Glaurung Mainz working on your Android devices? In my case it doesn't work in my new marshmallow and old jelly bean.

    1. Did you install kpk.bin? Glaurung Mainz exits without it.

    2. I've just installed Glaurung Mainz and copied (not installed as a new engine) kpk.bin using root access. The engine works okay with MTK6752. 64 bit Arm8 cpu and Android 5.0 (API level 21, only pie accepted).

  6. Even Komodo 3 doesn't work in my devices.

  9. Gurcan, good news. I spoke with Daniel (Andscacs author) and said that it would be nice to get the source code for new versions of its engine, he promised that he would open soon! So Andscacs updates will! It's good.

    1. Yes. Good news indeed. By the way, i've recently had the feeling that Andscacs behaves strangely during the first move of the games in such a way that its opponent can't reach expected nps. It happens only when Anscacs plays black. You think about a possible cause while i'll be looking for a proof. If i'm correct, Andscacs may have collected some ELOs more unfairly in Rapidroid.

    2. It's very strange. I did not seem to be watching this in my life.

  10. Gurcan where do we get kpk.bin for Glaurung Mainz ? Its not in the engine zip from your repository.

thanks for this rapiddroid n alot of thanks to alex for compiling lot of chess engine

    my opinion
    Andscacs is best engine

    but not alexei name nowadays????

i m just curious dont take it negatively

    1. Jim Ablett started the fire. Then he stopped. Then he came back and then he stopped again. Aprijal took the flag from him. Then he stopped. Now it's Alexei who holds the flag.

  13. Hello Sir Gurcan
can u tell me why Rybka 2.3.2a mp is in rapiddroid ?? is it available for android also ????

Sting , i think is clone or derivative of Sf ,why included ??

n why protector , cyclone , demolito is missing in rapiddroid , it is strong chess engine

    ReplyDelete
  14. Protector doesnt work properly in CFA.Cyclone was removed as its too much like Grapefruit.Demolito is only arm8..whilst Rapidroid is tested using only arm7 and arm5 engines.Sting is a derivative BUT its being developed since 2011 from stockfish 2.1.1 and its considered more of an analysis engine. On Gurcan's decision its in Rapidroid . Rybka is one of the 'anchor' or 'reference" engines from PC thats used to calibrate the elo of Rqpidroid engines.I remember all this from past posts.Gurcan may correct me if im wrong ;-)

  17. DeepSaros ver.2.3f
    Deep Saros 0.9

    DanaSah 6.0 RND
    DanaSah 7.0

why Same engine with different versions are present here ??

i hav read Ach is faster by ....
    it is used here
but no arm8 are allowed ?????

    GreKo_2016.ACH_xb.arm7.pie is newer than
GreKo_2015.JA_xb but it is used instead ?????

    i m just curious
    answer it positively

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Two Saros: Yes because their base is not the same code. Although they have the same name, they are two different engines.
Two Danasah's: 6.0RND represents the weakest possible engine. It plays random moves instantly. I think is's useful to make the bottom line visible in Rapidroid. The name of the engine doesn't make sense but the function does.
Arm8: I have many arm7 devices and 1 arm8. Besides, there are a lot engines not working under Android 5.0 and beyond. Arm7 will remain the standard for some more time.

      Delete
    2. Greko: I tried 2016 but due to many early terminations, i gave up and reverted back to 2015.

  18. i dont know everything at all
    but

i think every possible chess engine with strong build ( ach is faster stronger should be here , arm7 instead of arm 5 ) should be here

    arm8 shouldn't be neglected

.pgo is not present here as well
    ( Fruit_Reloaded_3.2.1.ACH_uci.arm7.pgo )

    arm64v8 also not present

    senpai 2 should be here

i think might be issue of android compatibility

but i m sure Sir Gurcan u can leave my confusion away
    hoping for ur answer kindly

    1. Senpai 2.0 is playing now for next release.
Many engines are already pgo, even if you don't see in the names.
Arm8: We need some more time to progress towards arm8. Needs an investment.

  19. bitfoot is present but not clubfoot ( ther are both arm5 instead )

Laser 1.3 beta is present ,but laser 1.6 beta missing
Kurt 0.9.2.2 JA present ( but i found same name but beta written in it )
    also not claudia beta

i appreciate ur work ur dedication
but only through questioning only i get my answer

    dont mind

    1. I don't mind at all. All questions are welcome. Answers are ready:
      - Clubfoot elliminated months ago because of early terminations. Bitfoot uses modern search algorhytms and it's from the same author. So i kept Bitfoot.
      - Laser 1.6 beta is currently playing for next release.
      - Kurt: It's the only stable version i could find. I don't mind if it's beta.
      - Claudia: has been disqualified months ago because of frequent bad terminations.

  21. Gurcan, Pedone_1.7 32 bit working fine on android 4.4.2, Quad Core - 4x Cortex-A7.

    1. Grrr. Now i'm stuck with no assumption left. It really bothers me that this build can't run with Exynos 4412 which in the past had no specific issue with any engine. I've got a Galaxy Note 2 with Android 4.4.2 like you. Exynos is quad core A9 and no significant difference but i t doesn't work for me.

  22. Hello Sir Gurcan
what are ur views in this rapiddroid ????

i have read ur previous older post n found that nothing changes much only time passes by
    Critter
    Blackmamba
    Firezina
    Robolitto
    Deepsaros

Stay behind legendary Stockfish n Komodo
n not updated once for a while ( many chess engine not get updated )

But many chess engines got updated but still lags behinds this chess engines

so my question is why development hasnot grown fast forward leaving all behind this abandon chess engine ????

Gud to see Andscacs Ginkgo Fritz
    which makes chess interesting

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Unfortunately, there are several closed source engines missing in Android. For this there's no hope unless the authors spare time to prepare builds for Android too. Some did that, some didn't. The biggest miss is Houdini.

      Delete
  23. Yeah Gurcan.. If i remember correctly, we had this kind of problem in past, where some engines was working for you, but not for me (and the opposite). I think it is time to ask Alexei (or Aprijal) for arm7.pgo version of Pedone 1.7!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Pedone is closed source. But yes it would be good to find a way to get it working for Gurcan to have it in Rapidroid

  24. Why everyone is crazy about stockfish clone or derivative ?
Can Stockfish clone becomes latest version like Stockfish 9 ????

Written from scratch engine are weaker n takes long periods of time to update

but sf derivative update time to time but what i m considering about it didnot get chance for tournament

then what is the point in its updating it.........
but also its author cannot produce one own engine

i mean to say that some engine are derived from other
but get high level value as original

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Clones make no sense unless they add significant improvent in such a way that the clone doesn't need to follow the improvements of the original and becomes independent.

  25. Lazar, yes, you right, it is closed source engine, so, somebody need to report this issue here http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?start=0&t=66341&topic_view=flat&sid=96e482278defc5d3d3dd830caef64341
